Abstract Encaustic Mixed Media

Encaustic (bees wax and natural dammar resin) is medium I could say that “I use”, but that I collaborate with it in creating the paintings.

The encaustic is applied in its liquid form (melted) in several stages then fused together with heat, making a single, homogenous and compact layer. In its liquid form it has a thick density, with its own personality (it doesn’t just “do what I want it do to”) and keeps the organic shapes once solidified (cooled).

The dammar resin makes for extra shine and strength, therefor, kept in proper conditions (where a plant would survive), the encaustic paintings are archivable, proof of it can be the Pompei’s murals (Roman Empire).

The paintings don’t require framing and are delivered with a hanging system already installed. Most of them are made on canvas on chassis, but they can be created also on wooden boards or MDF panels.

The artwork comes with a certificate of authenticity and care instructions.

All paintings are signed on the right side (3D encaustic) and on the back.

Encaustic is a medium made of bees wax and natural dammar resin, used since Antiquity for painting.

By its own, mixed with other painting mediums or sculpted, this makes for an unique, versatile and special visual expression.

The encaustic mixed media paintings contain different types of paints, pigments or materials: inks, pastels, watercolors, pencils, gouaches, metallic foils etc.

The paintings on this page are divided in 3 categories, by the encaustic’s percentage used, or the style chosen.

Encaustic successfully supports also collages, including photographic ones.
